Computer Vision Syndrome Treatment
Millions of people are on a computer screen all day for work. Exposing your eyes to a screen for extended periods of time will lead to eye fatigue and other uncomfortable symptoms. Our blink rate decreases drastically while looking at a screen.
Computer vision syndrome symptoms may include:
- Headaches
- Blurred vision or focusing issues
- Itchy, red, dry, or watery eyes
- Neck and shoulder pain
Some ways to help reduce your eyestrain from the computer include:
- Following the 20/20/20 rule
- For every 20 minutes of screen time, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
- Blink!
- Our blink rate decreases drastically when we stare at a screen. A decreased blink rate can lead to dry eyes. Symptoms may include blurry vision, redness, burning, tearing, or a gritty/sandy feeling.
- Adjust your screen position and settings.
- Sit at least 20 inches away
- Position your screen below eye level
- Adjust screen brightness to match room lighting
- Book an eye exam to:
- Check your eye health
- Check your glasses or contact lens prescription. Even small amounts of uncorrected refractive error can
cause eye strain. Our optometrists may recommend special computer glasses to relieve eye strain and
improve your vision.
